Chris Young gets traded -- the other one

Young has this goofy look on his face in every single
action shot of him pitching. I kid you not, check Google.

Less than 24 hours after Chris Young was traded from the MattroStars to the Jackrabbits, Chris Young was traded from the Bashful Satanists to Hells Kitchen Herzogs. Of course, this Chris Young is the 27-year-old Padres starter who had a breakout 2006, going 11-5 with a 3.47 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 164 K in 179-1/3 IP. In exchange, Greg Heck will head into his second season with pitchers Jake Westbrook and Jonathan Broxton on his staff.

Westbrook, 29, went 15-10 last season with a 4.18 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 109 K in 211-1/3 IP. Not overwhelming by any means, but he's good for 200 IP and 15 wins, with an upside near his 2004 season that saw him go 14-9 with a 3.39 ERA and 1.25 WHIP. Broxton, to my surprise, is white. For some reason I pictured him as a black dude. Go figure. The 288-pound 22-year-old had a brilliant season in the bullpen for the Dodgers, striking out 97 in just 76-1/3 IP, to go with his 2.60 ERA and 1.24 WHIP. He's the closer of the future in L.A., but is currently blocked by the 37-year-old Takashi Saito. With 100 K in just 78-1/3 IP, 2.07 ERA and 0.91 WHIP in '06, he doesn't appear to be giving up the job easily.

While much ado is made over the DLB and MattroStars' offseasons, the 'Zogs are quietly having a great offseason. Cooper has now pilfered two top 30-level starters in Young and Chris Capuano -- both of whom are in their prime years -- from the expansion teams. In exchange, the 'Zogs have given up Boof Bonser, Broxton, Westbrook and a draft pick. Not too shabby.

Good trade for Zogs and a good offseason overall. Looking like it's goign to be a very competitive season.
