The next in the line of MattroStars pitching royalty, Yovani Gallardo.
Hopefully he loses the acne and creepy molester by the time he hits the bigs.
We continue our look at minor league prospects with the World Champion MattroStars. They may be the oldest team in the league, thanks to the likes of Randy Johnson, Greg Maddux and John Smoltz, but there's a bright future on the horizon led by fireballers Yovani Gallardo and Gio Gonzalez.
SP, Yovani Gallardo (AAA, Brewers): 6-1, 2.14 ERA, 54.2 IP/76 K/18 BB
The 21-year-old Mexican phenom continues to make AAA look like little league. It's only a matter of time before the minor league strikeout leader gets the call up to Milwaukee.
SP, Gio Gonzalez (AA, White Sox): 4-3, 3.66 ERA, 46.2 IP/62 K/18 BB
While Gallardo leads the minors in punchouts, Gonzalez -- last year's AA starting pitcher of the year -- ranks second. His brilliant performance thus far and Freddy Garcia's underwhelming season are making Phils fans wonder if that trade was worth it, especially with Garcia in the last year of his contract.
2B, Eric Patterson (AAA, Cubs): .333/.387/.526-6 HR-25 RBI-6 SB
Arguably the best 2B prospect in baseball and brother of Corey is doing his best to earn a call-up to Chicago. He's on a tear this month, batting .413/.456/.700 in May. With Ryan Theriot enjoying his 15 minutes of fame, Patterson's debut may be delayed, but he should be manning 2B for the Cubbies in 2008 if not sooner.
OF, Travis Snider (A-, Blue Jays): .352/.389/.556-3 HR-32 RBI-3 SB
A groin injury has brought the 19-year-old back to earth after a .405/.419/.646 April.
OF, Jose Tabata (A+, Yankees): .289/.360/.358-1 HR-20 RBI-6 SB
Like fellow teenager Fernando Martinez, the 18-year-old Tabata is doing good but not great, which is to be expected. That they're holding their own among players older than them is impressive. Like Martinez, the only question mark is what kind of power they'll develop. The Stars hope the Manny Ramirez comparisons hold true.

no mention that gio gonzalez has poor walk and hr rates to go along with those k's? or that tabata is already battling a weight problem and is posting a subpar slugging %, esp if he's to be considered a top prospect...
Gio has a walk rate of 2.9/9IP and a HR rate of .87/9IP, both of which are pretty damn good. As far as Tabata, the kid's 18 and holding his own in high-A, slugging percentage at that age is pretty meaningless. Grady Sizemore hit .268/.335/.381 at 18 years old in low-A. If you're going to give people bad information at least leave your name.
