Daddy's Hitter Analysis

Well guys, sorry it took so long but here is the DAFV Hitter Analysis I promised a few weeks ago. This analysis is based solely on last year’s stats so it devalues players who were injured or had down years as well as younger players who saw infrequent playing time. For example, we all know Howie Kendrick is likely to be a stud 2B for years to come yet he ranked behind the likes of Jamey Carroll and Mark Ellis. It will also neglect rookies with good potential like Alex Gordon and Kevin Kouzmanoff. Conversely, this analysis will overvalue players who had a career year. No offense to Raul Ibanez, but I doubt his #10 ranking among all OFs and #24 ranking overall is accurate.

Now, before I get into the rankings, let me explain how they were compiled. I began by taking the weekly scoring stats off the website and copying them into excel. Anyone who scored over 150 points was included. I then had a formula calculate how many weeks the player actually played. If there was a "0," the week did not count. This helped normalize the analysis for injuries and call-ups. I then divided the players overall score for the year and divided by their weeks played to get an average score per week.

Next, I took an average points per week for each position. I then took each players points per week and subtracted their respective average position points per week to find out how much more (or less) the player scored versus the average at his position. This thought process is similar to VORP for those familiar with that. So, to turn this into an example I’ll use Brian Roberts. Overall, Roberts was #52 in average points per week among all major leaguer hitters. However, when comparing Roberts to his peers he jumps up to #33 overall and #2 among 2nd baseman proving his high worth as a player. So now onto the results.

I don’t see the need for much writing from here on out, so I’ll just post the rankings one by one. First, here are the first and second teams overall:
