2008 CWFLB Draft Results

Jesse Litsch tries to hide his identity now that he's a Blunted Stopher.

The 2008 CWFLB Draft was the year of the trade, as it included 16 combined changes in ownership of picks, including a stretch lasting the first four picks of the second round. Two picks were even traded twice. But the biggest trades of all netted the T-Baggers the second and third overall choices to follow their already well-earned first overall pick. The triumvirate of David Price, Matt Weiters and Franklin Morales could help pave the way back to mediocrity for the T-Baggers, but only time will tell.

This draft will also be remembered for controversy surrounding the MattroStars useless third-round selections of IR-bound pitchers Sergio Mitre, Clay Hensley and Jordan Tata. The picks prompted a proposed rule that would make injured players spend one week on a team's roster before they're able to be put on the IR. Herzogs' owner Andrew Cooper pointed out the rule's stupidity, cooler heads prevailed and the witch hunt ultimately failed.

Some notable drafts include a clueless Blunted Stophers organization taking mediocre pitchers Jair Jurrjens (1.5), Jesse Litsch (2.17), Andy Sonnastine (3.29) and Max Sherzer (4.35). Funny thing is all four are probably better than then-Stophers Lenny DiNardo, Jeremy Sowers and Aaron Cook.

Other notable events:
- Back-to-back zips at (1.7) Hiroki Kuroda and (1.8) Kosuke Fukudome
- The Isotopes taking 38-year-old Troy Percival over George Sherrill (31) and Kerry Wood (30)
- The looks of a solid DLB Draft in Parker (1.13), LaPorta (2.14), Towles (3.28) and Cust (3.34)
- The Gun Show getting real old, real fast with Maddux (2.22) and Contreras (3.26)
- Jackrabbits going with the homer, Carlos Ruiz (2.20), over rookie J.R. Towles (3.28)

Mattro's Predictions:
- Hitter of the Draft: DLB's Matt LaPorta (2.14)
- Pitcher of the Draft: T-Baggers' David Price (1.1)
- Worst picks: Gun Show's Maddux (2.22) & Contreras (3.26) when Volquez (2.23) and Sonnanstine (3.29) were both available
- Best value pick: Isotopes' Edinson Volquez (2.23)
- First to be dropped: (outside of Mitre, Hensley & Tata): Blunted Stophers' Jesse Litsch (2.17)
- Biggest bust: T-Baggers' Franklin Morales (1.3)
